Powkiddy X45: Retro gaming handheld arrives with a 4.5-inch IPS display for US$49.99
Powkiddy has introduced another cheap and low-powered gaming handheld. As we discussed earlier this year, the company has already launched the X51 and the RGB20S this year, which it has now complemented with the X45. As its name suggests, the Powkiddy X45 has a 4.5-inch display that the company claims operates at 854 x 480 pixels. Additionally, the IPS panel is flanked by numerous gamepad controls, the details of which Powkiddy outlines in the image below.
Moreover, Powkiddy equips the X45 with an ATM7051 SoC, 128 MB of DDR2 RAM and a 3,000 mAh battery. Seemingly, the device does not have enough internal storage for games, but a microSD card reader is on hand. Incidentally, the Powkiddy X45 also has a 0.8 W speaker and a 3.5 mm jack, should you prefer using headphones. The device appears to feature a full-sized HDMI port too, along with a USB Type-C connection for power and two USB 2.0 Type-A ports for connecting controllers.
Powkiddy adds that the X45 relies on an undisclosed Linux distribution, that supports emulators for PlayStation, SNES and Game Boy Advance games, among others. Currently, the Powkiddy X45 is orderable from AliExpress, where it costs US$49.99, including shipping. Please note that the price does not include import duties and taxes. In other words, the Powkiddy X45 could end up costing a fair bit more than its US$49.99 list price, depending on where you live.
