Computex 2024 | AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT and Ryzen 7 5800XT: AM4 desktop CPUs unveiled alongside next-gen Zen 5 models
AMD has unveiled two new CPUs based on the last-gen AM4 platform. First spotted alongside the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F, the Ryzen 9 5900XT and Ryzen 7 5800XT have been announced alongside the AM5-based Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs. The former appears to be a repurposed Ryzen 9 5950X and the latter a Ryzen 7 5800X refresh. Unfortunately, AMD hasn't specified which node either CPU is manufactured on.
The Ryzen 9 5900XT is a 16-core, 32-thread CPU with a boost clock of 4.8 GHz, 72 MB cache and 105 Watts TDP. The Ryzen 7 5800XT halves the core/thread count and cache but keeps the same TDP/boost clock. AMD even throws in a RGB-enabled Wraith Prism cooler with the latter. AMD will unveil the price and availability of both processors later.
Compared to the Intel Core i7-13700K, the Ryzen 9 5900XT is a paltry 4% faster in gaming. Similarly, the Ryzen 7 5800XT offers a meagre 12% performance uplift over the Intel Core i5-13600KF. The test platform used an X570M motherboard for AMD CPUs, a Z690 motherboard for the 13700K, a B660 motherboard for the 13600KF, 32 GB of DDR4 3200 memory and a Radeon RX 6600 graphics card.
