CES 2024 | AM4ever: AMD keeps last-gen platform alive with Ryzen 7 5700X3D, Ryzen 7 5700, Ryzen 5 5600GT and Ryzen 5 5500GT

AMD has launched four new processors for its now-deprecated AM4 platform at CES 2024. They include two APUs (Ryzen 5 5600GT and Ryzen 5 5500GT), a part with 3D V cache (Ryzen 7 5700X3D) and the Ryzen 7 5700. All four SKUs can be bought on January 31.

AMD has launched four new desktop APUs for the AM5 platform. AM4 owners will be pleased to know that the socket is alive and well with four new entrants. One of them could potentially punch well above its weight class when paired with the proper GPU. There's a surprising new entrant that didn't feature in any leaks and the previously-hinted-at Ryzen 5 5500X3D is nowhere to be found.

Ryzen 7 5700X3D

The Ryzen 7 5700X3D is finally official with 8 cores, 16 threads, 100 MB of cache, base/boost clocks of 3.0/4.1 GHz and a TDP of 105 Watts. It is essentially a Ryzen 7 5800X3D ($358 on Amazon) with nerfed clocks. Performance-wise, AMD claims it can trade blows with the Intel Core i5-13600K, which is impressive, given that both parts are generations apart in terms of architecture. Interestingly, AMD used a "GeForce GTX 4080" graphics card for the comparison. It gets even more puzzling with the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D supposedly using "32 GB 6400MHz RAM", which is curious.

Ryzen 7 5700

The next Zen 3 CPU AMD has in store for us is the Ryzen 7 5700, which is precisely what its name suggests: a watered-down Ryzen 7 5700X. While its base/boost clocks are identical (4.6/3.7 GHz), its total cache is lowered to 20 MB (from 36 MB). Also, it does not support PCIe Gen 4 devices for some reason. Lastly, like its other Zen 3 counterparts, no iGPU is included. AMD's in-house testing claims the Ryzen 7 5700 can outperform the Intel Core i5-12400F by a whopping 5% in some titles when paired with the elusive "GeForce GTX 4080".

Ryzen 5 5600GT and the Ryzen 5 5500GT

Lastly, AMD has two new Zen 3-based APUs for gamers on an ultra-tight budget: the Ryzen 5 5600GT and the Ryzen 5 5500GT. The former is a 6-core/12-thread processor with a base/boost clock of 3.6/4.6 GHz, and the latter is a 4-core/8-thread CPU clocked at 3.6/4.4 GHz. Both are up to 10% faster than the Ryzen 5 5600G and feature a Vega iGPU. PCi3 Gen4 support is once again not included for either SKU, and the iGPU performance could be hamstrung due to DDR4 RAM.

Price and availability

The AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D hits shelves on January 31 at $249. Similarly, the Ryzen 7 5700X costs $175. Lastly, the Ryzen 5 5600GT retails at $140 and the Ryzen 5 5500GT $125.
