The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU is slated to launch later this month, and preliminary data indicates that the GPU core will top out at 2,970 MHz boost clock. Until now, there have been no real indications of what we can expect from the new GPUs when it comes to overclocking potential.
According to an X post by frequent hardware leaker, Thomasz Gawroński, an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT was overclocked from the regular boost clock of 2970 MHz to an impressive 3244 MHz, with a peak TGP of 329 W. Compared to the stock settings, this is a 274 MHz clock speed increase and a 25 W TGP increase.
The card was being tested in Unigine Heaven, but there was no indication of how stable the overclock was. Still, it seems to have been running at that speed for at least 10 seconds, which means it didn't immediately crash out after starting the test. The GPU temperature also seemed to still be well in check, at only 50 °C, indicating that there may still be more power to be eked out of the RDNA 4 GPU.
For comparison, the fastest air-cooled AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT on HWBot, the overclocking ranking site and forum, managed to reach a GPU clock of 3230 MHz. That's a 480 MHz overclock over stock. Given that these are still very early tests, likely performed on stock RX 9070 XT vBIOS settings, it's not surprising to see the Radeon RX 7900 XT with higher overclocking potential.
