Even though AMD's Frank Azor effectively shut down rumours about a 32 GB Radeon GPU, the Bilibili leaker who revealed it (Zhangzhonghao) insists it is the real deal. Frank's denial isn't surprising because companies often refuse to acknowledge unreleased products. Zhangzhonghao has now revealed its tentative name, and clears up some doubts presented by the original leak.
Apparently, the 32 GB Radeon RX 9070 XT will launch as the Radeon RX 9070 XTX, marking the return of XTX-branded SKUs in RDNA 4. This also tells us the GPU is a part of AMD's gaming lineup and not an AI card like previously speculated. But, there are several missing pieces of the puzzle that should hopefully fall in place in the coming weeks.
For starters, nobody knows exactly which GPU the supposed Radeon RX 9070 XTX will use. Will it be the Navi 48 found on the regular 9070 XT, or a higher end one that can take advantage of its 32 GB of VRAM? Then there's its TDP. Some overclocked 9070 XT versions ask for a 900 Watt power supply, and it would be reasonable to assume the Radeon RX 9070 XTX demands that much.
Lastly, the most important question concerns its price. We should have a rough idea about that once the regular Radeon RX 9070 XT gets shown off on February 28. A $1,000 price tag seems plausible, and even justified, if the Radeon RX 9070 XTX can trade blows with Nvidia's GeForce RX 5080. Either way, the GPU isn't scheduled to drop until later in H1, 2025.
