A new leak supports the possibility of a next-gen iPhone SE
The iPhone SE was received well when it was released in 2016, possibly as much for its rather retro design as its unusually affordable price. A subsequent generation was anticipated by many as a result; however, Apple did not release another 'economical' iPhone model until last year with the XR. These decisions, in addition to some relevant rumors, pointed to the most likely conclusion that the SE line was dead.
That was then, however. Now, it appears that the Cupertino company just might be planning an about-face on these moves. It has recently dropped the price of the original SE on its own website, suggesting that it is making room in its inventory for a second-generation. The latest indication that this iPhone series is making a return comes courtesy of SlashLeaks. It now hosts a new entry that may be a render for a 2019 SE.
The images in question show a black Apple-esque device with a single camera and an iPhone SE logo on its glassy-looking back. It could be argued that this render is simply based on the XR; however, the camera module and flash are arranged in a different conformation, and look somewhat flatter agaiinst the rear panel compared to this 2018 model.
Then again, this sensor arrangement also looks identical to that of the original SE, and could simply have been photoshopped into the image. Furthermore, it is possibe that Apple is clearing some stock in order to make way for an expanded range of potential devices. They may include the AirPower wireless charging mat (which is rumored as closer to release than ever before), the Airpods 2 or even a next-generation iPod Touch.
In addition, Apple has also recently released a new range of Smart Battery Cases for the XR and its higher-end sibliings, the XS and XS Max. Then again, other current reports suggest that Apple could do with driving revenue as never before this year.
