A succinct tweet by Ice universe has led to speculation that Apple may actually release an AirPods 2 product before the year is through. The post, which simply reads “Apple will definitely launch AirPods 2 this year,” is not accompanied by any images or corroborating evidence. The original AirPods device was released in December 2016, and many Apple fans believe it is time for a refresh.
Twitter has provided a little more evidence to a possible upcoming AirPods 2 launch thanks to a more recent tweet from Mr-white. This particular post features two images (see below) of stacks of AirPods cases. When asked for prices, Mr-white replied “they’re not available,” leading to the suggestion that the cases in the pictures actually belong to a second-generation product yet to be released.
The main innovation people are expecting with AirPods 2 is a case that can be wirelessly charged. Even though the company is still to launch its AirPower wireless charging mat that would have been compatible with AirPods, it doesn’t mean the refreshed earbuds won’t have this feature. An upgraded AI system and even water resistance could also be incorporated into the next-generation AirPods.
