2nd-gen Apple AirPods may get launch date in first half of 2019
The AirPods are Apple's take on the truly wireless headset. They have been received favorably, particularly for the way they pair and sync with other hardware from the same OEM, albeit perhaps less so for their appearance. The second generation of these earbud-type audio products is speculated to expand on their predecessors' capabilities: they may have improved health- and finess-tracking built in, thanks to new sensors.
The original AirPods were launched alongside the iPhone 7 line, which makes some pairs of them out there just over 2 years old at this stage. Previous leaks and rumors had put the release of their successors at various points since then, the latest being back in 2018. However, it is now 2019, and this second generation has yet to appear. A new report on wearables in DigiTimes has asserted that these products are in fact coming, and may be here in the next six months.
On the other hand, the outlet did not cite any sources or specific leaks in making this claim. Therefore, we cannot say for sure that these earbuds will be here within this new, rather nebulous time-frame. Meanwhile, various different takes on their basic design, including Huawei's Freebuds 2, are available to purchase at the moment. However, consumers who want to stick with Apple for their state-of-the-art wireless audio needs still definitely have more of a wait ahead of them.
