A comparison of top fitness trackers – Huawei Watch Fit 5 series hands-on

The Huawei Watch Fit series is known for its lightweight and slim design, featuring large displays and a focus on fitness and health. Huawei has kept this approach consistent with the new Watch Fit 5 and Watch Fit 5 Pro models.
The Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro now features a 1.92-inch LTPO AMOLED display that can reach a brightness of up to 3,000 cd/m². Not only is the display larger, but the screen-to-body ratio has improved from 79% (Watch Fit 4 Pro) to 83%, making it significantly higher than that of the Apple Watch (78%). At 9.5 mm thick, the Watch Fit 5 Pro is slightly thicker than its predecessor, but it also has a significantly larger battery (471 mAh). The frame is once again made of aluminum, the bezel of titanium, and the display is protected by sapphire glass.
The range of features is vast: As with the Watch GT Runner 2, contactless payments via Curved Pay are now also possible. In addition, over 100 sports are supported for workout tracking, including a virtual power meter for running or cycling, support for free diving to depths of up to 40 meters, and a comprehensive Gold Mode.
This puts the Watch Fit 5 Pro on par with the Apple Watch Ultra in terms of display brightness and easily surpasses it in terms of battery life, as well as in some sensor capabilities and health features.
Diabetes risk assessment will be available later
When it comes to sensors, the Watch Fit 5 Pro also lives up to its premium reputation, supporting not only the usual vital signs (heart rate, blood oxygen) but also skin temperature measurements, ECG, pulse wave analysis for detecting heart rhythm abnormalities, and arterial stiffness detection. Comprehensive sleep tracking is also included, featuring monitoring of sleep breathing and potential sleep apnea detection.
In China, the Watch Fit 5 Pro is also expected to offer sensor-based diabetes risk analysis, though this feature must first be certified for the European market and will be added at a later date.
Mini Workouts with the Watch Fit 5 Series
New to both Watch Fit 5 models are the mini-workouts. This feature is designed especially for users who spend a lot of time sitting at work or don’t get much exercise. A little panda on the display guides you through a total of 30 short exercises that cover all parts of the body, but clearly focus on the neck and upper back (eleven exercises).
The Huawei Watch Fit 5 is the smaller model, featuring a 1.82-inch AMOLED display protected by lithium-aluminum-silicate glass, housed in a case made from 100% recycled aluminum. The display can reach a brightness of up to 2,500 cd/m², and the battery is the same size as in the Pro model. There are some compromises in terms of features; for example, Golf Mode and free diving are not supported. Among the sensors, ECG measurement, pulse wave analysis, and arterial stiffness measurement are missing. Additionally, Huawei has omitted the temperature sensor here, which we consider a significant downgrade, as it is important for female cycle tracking. However, the app for these features is still included in full; only the sensor support is missing.
Overall, both models in the Huawei Watch Fit 5 series leave a positive first impression. Both impress with high-quality build, great displays, and long battery life. The slim design and light weight are further pluses, as is the cross-platform compatibility with Android and Apple smartphones. In terms of sensor accuracy, both models appear to perform at a high level, similar to the Watch GT 6. A detailed review will follow shortly.
