Huawei has officially introduced the Watch Fit 5 to the global market, the company's new affordable smartwatch with an AMOLED display. Of course, the screen didn't see much of an upgrade over the last-gen wearable.
To look back, the Huawei Watch Fit 4 features a 1.82-inch AMOLED display, and the screen on the new version of the smartwatch has the same size. It even has the same 80% screen-to-body ratio and an identical resolution. Only the peak brightness rating has seen a change, up from 2,000 nits to 2,500 nits, which should result in a better viewing experience under challenging lighting conditions.
The overall build seems to be identical as well, with the Watch Fit 5 weighing the same as the predecessor, 27 grams (0.059lbs). There's nothing remarkable about the battery life as well. Specifically, the new smartwatch has the same up to 10-day runtime rating as the predecessor.
One notable new aspect for the Watch Fit 5 series is the Mini-Workout assistant. It's a health-focused feature, and it offers short guided exercises to help users escape from a sedentary routine. These exercises target different parts of the body, including the shoulders, neck, and back.
For those into fitness, the smartwatch is packed with fitness-focused features, including one called Trail Running, which uses the upgraded "Sunflower" positioning system for accurate tracking. The wearable is also compatible with third-party sports and health ecosystems, including Strava, Kotcha, Naviki, and Clue.
Other than that, the company highlights that the Watch Fit 5 can do precise sleep monitoring, supports NFC payment, and has over 100 workout modes. The launch price in the EU is €199, about $234, and the company is offering launch discounts and special promotions across different regions.
