Huawei launches new smartwatch with unusual flip design

The Huawei Watch Kids X1 has been unveiled at a global product launch event in Thailand. This new smartwatch arrives almost five years after the brand launched its last children’s watch: the Huawei Watch Kids 4 Pro.
Huawei’s new Watch Kids X1 smartwatch has a 1.82-inch AMOLED display with a 480 x 408 px resolution, surrounded by an octagonal bezel. Like other smartwatches designed for children, it offers five-mode dual-band satellite positioning, allowing parents to check on the location of their kid in the accompanying app. Parents can set safe and dangerous zones, triggering alerts when the watch enters these areas, and there is also an emergency SOS function for the wearer. Plus, the watch has a health assistant, and support for 2G/3G/4G globally means that the wearable can be used for calling and messaging.
A more unusual feature of the Huawei Watch Kids X1 is its integrated cameras. At the front is a 5MP camera, and at the rear is a 13MP camera, which can be used for video calls or taking photos. The body of the watch lifts out of the case and is rotatable up to 360°. Plus, the 32GB ROM should allow the user to store over 2,000 photos on the device.
It is unclear when the Huawei Watch Kids X1 will go on sale, and whether it will come to Europe. In the US, where this smartwatch will not be released, readers could consider alternatives like the Garmin Bounce 2 smartwatch (curr. $249.99 at Amazon).
