Google Fitbit Air launches for $99, also for iPhone users

With Fitbit Air, Google presents a new competitor to Whoop 5.0 which is positioned alongside the Amazfit Helio Strap as one of the most affordable fitness wearables on the market. Google offers numerous bands, from a sports wristband made from recycled yarn with a Velcro fastener to a premium wristband with a stainless steel clasp.
Fitbit Air is inserted into the wristband and is barely visible from the outside. By removing a display, Fitbit Air is said to achieve a battery life of one week, even though the heart rate is measured every two seconds. Google has also installed an SpO2 sensor, a skin temperature sensor and a 3-axis acceleration sensor. These sensors are sufficient to record sleep, actively burned calories, cardio exertion and steps taken.
While these features are available without a subscription, AI features, guided meditations and detailed sleep analyses with AI insights are only available in conjunction with Google Health Premium, and therefore cost an extra $9.99 per month. Of particular interest is Google's AI Coach, which can automatically create training plans and give tips for workouts. Fitbit Air is waterproof and can be worn for swimming.
Prices and availability
Google Fitbit Air is now available for pre-order at the Google Online Store in a choice of red, turquoise, blue or black, each for $99. Delivery is expected to begin at the end of May. The wristband can be used with both an Apple iPhone and an Android smartphone via the new Google Health app. Anyone who purchases the wristband will receive three months of Google Health Premium free of charge.
