Verdict - The Watch Fit 4 has justifiable Pro credentials

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro is a high-quality smartwatch with a robust titanium case, sapphire crystal, and feels good on the wrist. It offers a bright AMOLED display, precise GNSS positioning, extensive health and training features, and solid everyday usability. Operation is intuitive via its touchscreen, crown, and buttons. Thanks to dual-band GNSS and offline maps, the watch is also suitable for outdoor sports.

The health features are versatile and include heart rate monitoring, ECG, SpO2, skin temperature, and sleep analysis. The Watch Fit 4 Pro impresses with over 100 supported disciplines, detailed performance metrics, and training options. The battery lasts about a week with normal use.

The phone functionality is limited by the lack of an eSIM and limited contact management. Payment is also only possible via a third-party app with a prepaid model.

Pros

+ robust titanium case
+ precise health data and ECG
+ long battery life

Cons

- pay function only with prepaid solution
- no eSIM support

Price and availability

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro can be ordered directly from Huawei (prices in UK pounds). At launch, Huawei is also offering discounts and free gifts. Using the discount code AFIT4PRO30OFF, you can get an additional £30 off the £249.99 asking price as well as a fluoroelastomer strap and a 12-month extended warranty.

Last year, Huawei launched the Watch Fit 3 and introduced a complete overhaul of the series, which has now received a successor in the form of the Watch Fit 4. Our review device, however, is the brand-new Pro model, which is more robust and uses higher-quality materials.

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro starts at a recommended retail price of around £249.99.

Case and features – The Watch Fit 4 Pro uses titanium and saphire glass

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro is available in three colors: black, blue, and green. The latter comes with a nylon strap, while the other two feature a fluoroelastomer strap. All models feature a titanium alloy case, a sapphire crystal display, and a durable plastic base.

The straps are 20 mm wide and can be changed without any tools using just a quick-release fastener. The workmanship is excellent, with tight gaps and a pleasant feel. The twist-and-press crown is also made of metal, but offers no tactile feedback. At a height of just 9.3 mm, the Fit 4 Pro is also comparatively slim and weighs just 35 grams with the nylon strap. Huawei specifies its water resistance as 5 ATM.

The Watch Fit 4 Pro is compatible with Android and iOS devices.

Sustainability

Huawei hasn't provided any specific sustainability information regarding the Watch Fit 4 Pro. Furthermore, the smartwatch isn't intended for user repair, but the straps are easily replaceable. The packaging is largely plastic-free, but surprisingly large.

Setup and operation - You can pay using the Watch Fit 4 Pro

To use the Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro, it must be paired with a smartphone or tablet that has the Huawei Health app installed. Users of a Huawei (AppGallery), Samsung (Galaxy Store), Xiaomi (App Mall), or Apple (App Store) device can install it directly from the respective app store. It is not available in the Google Play Store, but can be downloaded via a QR code on the packaging or from Huawei's website. The app and smartwatch then guide you through the setup process, which requires a Huawei account.

The health app hasn't changed fundamentally and is structured the same way as the Watch Fit 3. The overview tiles can be freely sorted, shown, or hidden. In the device settings, you can customize offline maps/music, watch faces, health monitoring, and install firmware updates, among other things.

With NFC on board, Huawei also allows payments to be made using the Fit 4 Pro. However, this doesn't work via Huawei Wallet (which is still unavailable in Germany) but instead uses the third-party app Quicko. At the time of testing, the feature wasn't yet available, but our colleagues at HuaweiBlog (you can find the German article here) have already tested this on the Watch GT 5. Unfortunately, this is only a prepaid solution, which incurs topping-up fees.

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro is operated primarily via the capacitive touchscreen, but also uses the push-and-press crown and the dedicated button below the crown.

The latter can distinguish between single and double presses. By default, a single press opens training mode, while a double press opens Huawei Wallet, which is still unavailable in Germany. This can be adjusted in the settings.

Telephoning and notifications

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro is equipped with a microphone and speaker, allowing phone calls to be made via Bluetooth with a paired smartphone. The device lacks eSIM support.

While the voice quality is satisfactory for the wearer, thanks to clear and loud playback, the caller may experience choppy sound if the Fit 4 Pro is not held close enough to the user's mouth. However, the quality is sufficient for short calls.

Full access to the phone book is not available, which means contacts must be added manually via the health app. Furthermore, there is no numeric keypad for direct number entry, and only a call log is available.

Notifications are received reliably and organized by app. Emojis can be displayed, but images cannot. Messages can be replied to using emojis, a keyboard, or pre-made short replies, which can be customized and organized in the app.

Health and fitness - The Watch Fit 4 Pro can free dive at up to 40m

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro features comprehensive health monitoring. In addition to sleep tracking, it continuously measures heart rate, stress, blood oxygen level (SpO2), and surface skin temperature. On top of this, it can record an ECG. However, features such as Health Glance or heart rate variability (HRV) tracking remain limited to the Watch 5. There's also a cycle tracker on board, and calories burned can be recorded.

For sports enthusiasts, the Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro allows free diving to a depth of 40 meters and offers a golf mode, which is found on the Watch GT 5 Pro. With a database of 15,000 golf courses, it comes with a comprehensive set of options.

Activity goals

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro displays activity goals in two ways. Firstly, via rings that display time spent standing, exercise duration, and calories burned, and secondly, via so-called Health Clovers that track sleep, steps, and mood and are populated by daily tasks. Both displays are customizable and can be viewed both on the watch and in the app. The app also offers detailed activity reports such as daily, weekly, monthly, and annual step counts, including calorie consumption, distance, and a breakdown by walking, running, and (stair) climbing.

If a goal is achieved, this is also displayed with a special image on some watch faces.

The cat is crowned when all rings are closed.

Heart frequency, heart rhythm and blood oxygen saturation

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro uses TruSense 5.5 sensors to collect health data. To better understand its capabilities, we compared it to reference devices.

We measured our heart rate during a bike trip, and, for comparison purposes, we used the Polar H10 chest strap. The resting heart rate was identical for both devices, and the deviations during the ride were also minimal, totalling 1.05%. This is reflected in the fact that the average heart rate measured by the Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro was four beats lower, but the peak and minimum heart rates were identical.

The same applies to blood oxygen (SpO2): In three consecutive measurements, the reference product (Braun Pulse Oximeter 1) was two percentage points lower than the Huawei Watch in every measurement.

Sleep tracking

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro differentiates between light, deep, and REM sleep and reliably detects even short waking phases in tests. Integrated breathing detection is designed to identify breathing pauses during sleep. The watch also provides information on heart rate, HRV, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate. With the support of a nearby smartphone, snoring, sleep talking, and ambient noise can also be recorded.

The sleep analysis is broken down in detail and supplemented by recommendations for improving sleep quality, and this is no different to a premium model such as the Watch 5.

Training recording

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro supports the recording of over 100 sports, including variations of the same discipline in different environments, such as running outdoors, indoors, or on the sports field. The same applies to cycling.

For common sports such as running, the smartwatch logs extensive data, including foot strike patterns, distance, calorie consumption, speed, stride cadence and length, and ground contact times. Users can set individual training goals for distance, calories, or time, define segment lengths, and plan interval training sessions. Automatic break detection is integrated.

For training management, the Fit 4 Pro displays different performance zones and calculates the VO2 max value. For other sports like swimming or rowing, specific metrics such as row rate and stroke rate are recorded. Pairing with additional training equipment is also possible. GNSS support for water sports is a new feature.

GNSS and navigation

Unlike the Watch Fit 4, the Pro model offers dual-band GNSS, which should enable more precise positioning. Offline maps are also available for download. However, navigation using Petal maps requires you to have a paired smartphone nearby.

On a bike ride, we compared the Watch Fit 4 Pro with a Garmin Venu 2. The two smartwatches performed very similarly, mapping routes quite reliably.

Display - The Watch Fit 4 Pro shines at 3,000 cd/m²

Subpixel structure
Subpixel structure

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro's 1.82-inch AMOLED display gets exceptionally bright. With the ambient light sensor enabled, we measured up to 3,020 cd/m², and using manual settings, the maximum brightness was 536 cd/m². The minimum brightness is a bit too high at 10.46 cd/m².

The measured PWM frequency of 60 Hz is not particularly high, but since you don't look at a smartwatch continuously, this shouldn't cause any problems.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.
Screen flickering / PWM detected 60 Hz

The display backlight flickers at 60 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) .

The frequency of 60 Hz is very low, so the flickering may cause eyestrain and headaches after extended use.

In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8350 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured.

Performance and battery life - One week runtime with the Watch Fit 4 Pro

Huawei hasn't provided any information regarding either the storage capacity or the chipset found inside the Watch Fit 4 Pro.

However, everyday performance is really good, and the system runs smoothly.

Battery life

The 400 mAh battery allows for approximately seven days of continuous use, with all health measurements enabled, but without the always-on display. Huawei's specifications are consistent with our test results, and this time also included several running activities.

The Fit 4 Pro is charged wirelessly, for which Huawei has provided a suitable charging base. A full charge takes about one hour.
