8BitDo sells several Bluetooth and wireless controllers, some of which are designed like retro controllers. It also sells Mod Kits that allow owners of retro (wired) controllers to transform them into modern ones with features such as Bluetooth connectivity and a rechargeable battery.
Among the Mod Kits 8BitDo offers is the one for the original PlayStation Controller. The company has now announced that the Mod Kit is back in stock. With a $25.98 price tag, the 8BitDo Mod Kit for Original PlayStation Controller is easy to install as all you have to do is remove the original PCB and insert the Mod Kit PCB. No soldering required.
Once installed, your old PlayStation Controller can now be connected to a Nintendo Switch, Windows device, Android, macOS, Steam, Raspberry Pi. There are even LEDs to show which mode the controller is and the remaining battery life.
The 180mAh Li-on rechargeable battery included will provide up to 8 hours of play time and a full charge via the special 3.5mm to USB cable should take up to 2 hours. And if you still want to use your controller with your old console (PS1 and PS2), 8BitDo also sells a retro receiver that plugs into the controller port on the controller.
