Sony has announced a new beta program for the PlayStation 5 on the PlayStation Blog, which is intended to consolidate all future beta programs. Until now, customers had to register separately for the beta testing of each game and each system. In future, users only need to register once on the official PlayStation Beta website.
This will create a centralized area where players can express their interest in all betas and register accordingly. This applies not only to PlayStation 5 games but also to Sony's PC games and to early access to new features of the PlayStation smartphone app and the PlayStation 5 operating system. Participation in the beta program is free; Sony only requires an active PlayStation account that has not attracted any negative attention so far.
As usual with such beta programs, there is no guarantee that registered users will actually receive an invitation to beta test various games. Players can express their interest in games and, after receiving an invitation, decide whether they want to take part in the beta test. Participation is voluntary, free and non-binding in all cases.
Sony asks beta testers to provide feedback on the games tested and to report bugs and performance problems so that these can be fixed before a game is released. Anyone who tests the beta version of a firmware update for the PlayStation 5 has the option of reverting to the previous, stable version at any time if the beta contains critical errors.
