PS5 controllers that are officially licensed by Sony and offer better functionality than the standard DualSense controller are typically quite expensive, costing over $200. Hori, however, has entered the space with its budget-friendly offering, the Wireless Fighting Commander Octa Pro. As the name suggests, it is optimized for fighting games and has six face buttons, programmable rear buttons, and swappable D-pad options.
Currently up for pre-order from the official website and Amazon, the Hori Wireless Fighting Commander Octa Pro is priced at $100. This puts it at $100 less than the Scuf Reflex and $80 less than the PDP Victrix Pro BFG. Hori is known for making solid budget alternatives for gamers and the Wireless Fighting Commander Octa Pro seems to be another example of that.
This new Hori controller has a more rounded design but with the symmetrical PS joysticks. On the right are six face buttons including two an R1 and an R2 button. At the back are two programmable buttons, along with a switch to change the connection from wired to wireless mode. Speaking of which, the battery can last up to 10 hours on a single charge. The right joystick is shallower than the left, which may take some getting used to in non-fighting games. The touchpad is present as well, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a mute button. There are three swappable options for the D-pad.
The official website does not mention Hall effect for the joysticks or trigger locks so that’s something lacking with the budget-friendly Wireless Fighting Commander Octa Pro. As per the Amazon listing, the controller will be released on April 14.
