Fallout 76, one of the most popular games from Bethesda, was launched in 2018. From the very beginning, the action RPG title has enjoyed a massive fan base and continues to do so.
In the official subreddit for Fallout 76, a recent post pointed out that despite several updates, the game continues to crash at least a few times every session. “It’s a massive issue when it is a matter of not if you crash, but when. The when somehow always ends up being near the end of the hourly event obviously, or just doing any basic tasks really,” the author of the post said.
The post then explained further that the game was launched more than 6 years ago, and yet it continues to be unstable.
“PS5, I feel the same way. Love Fallout, love where the game has gone. Been on and off playing since day 1. But 2-3 crashes in a game session isn’t acceptable at all,” one of the comments on the post read.
Another commentator added, “On PS5 and I consistently crash anywhere between 2 - 3 times in a 4-hour play session. It’s pretty ridiculous. It has been this way for as long as I can remember.”
A few other Redditors pointed out that Fallout 76 had fewer stability issues on PC and performed better there. “You should have stayed on PC with it. It is easily the best platform for the game and has limited stability issues, especially compared to PS5 which is by far the worst for it,” the user advised.
In addition to this, some Redditors complained that the load time for the game was quite long. “Lol, crashes? No. Some people think they're worse. But the load times make crashes a very minor inconvenience most of the time. Loading back into the game is like...a minute,” the user shared their experience. To this, another user has suggested adding an SSD to the PS4, which might help cut back on the loading time.
Overall, it looks like players have been playing the game for a long time and loved it. However, they seem dissatisfied with the frequent crashes and stability issues.
Bethesda, over the years, has frequently released several bug fixes and stability updates. For instance, in December 2024, the developer rolled out several improvements and fixes for the Gleaming Depths update (the fixes were aimed at stability on PlayStation).
Bethesda will be rolling out the next big Fallout 76 update in March 2025. Along with new content (like playable ghouls), the developer will likely release another round of stability fixes, which may ease some of the stability issues on PlayStation.
