Budget-friendly DJI drone alternative sports 8K camera and GPS

Potensic has released a new drone. The Atom 2 is a compact and particularly lightweight drone that weighs just 249 grams (8.8 oz) including the battery, propellers and microSD card. In many countries such as Germany, the weight limit of 250g is legally relevant. In any case, the Atom 2 shouldn’t be used in restricted areas and no flight zones, which is why buyers should always do some research before taking off with their new drone.

The promotional material focuses on the drone’s camera. It can take 48-megapixel (8K) pictures, but also 4K HDR video at 30 frames per second. The f/1.8 lens should have decent low-light performance, the CMOS sensor was sourced from Sony. Digital 4x zoom and a gimbal are advertised as well.

The foldable drone measures 3.5 x 5.6 x 2.3 inches and can climb up to 5 meters per second, while its speed maxes out at 16 meters per second. The DJI alternative can reach an altitude of up to 120 meters, but users should check their local regulations regarding flight height. Moreover, the Potensic Atom 2 can manage wind speeds of up to 38 kph.

Potensic further specifies a flight time of 32 minutes per charge, but this number will only be achievable if there’s no wind at all. The new drone also doesn’t have to be manually controlled all the time, since GPS allows the drone to follow specific routes. The Atom 2 can also track and follow users and take pictures or videos along the way.

Videos can be transmitted via PixSync 4.0 at a range of up to 10 kilometers. The drone is already available at the manufacturer’s online store. The standard kit costs $329, and shipping is scheduled to kick off in 30 days. Alternatively, the cheaper Potensic Atom SE is also available on Amazon.
