3DMark and Geekbench confirm switch to Ryzen 5 4600H and Ryzen 7 4800H processors for this year's HP OMEN 15
We last reviewed an Omen 15 almost a year ago, and it seems that HP has another set of gaming laptops in development. Spotted by @_rogame, the laptop is listed as the HP OMEM Laptop 15-en0xxx and report an HP 8786 motherboard. While the name OMEM has prompted speculation that HP is planning a new laptop brand, an HP support document confirms that the 15-en0xxx is an OMEN laptop.
According to several Geekbench listings, HP will release a Ryzen 7 4800H SKU. All listings report 8 GB of RAM, but a 15-en0xxx has also been benchmarked on 3DMark with 16 GB of RAM. Incidentally, 3DMark also demonstrates that a Ryzen 5 4600H version is in the works. @_rogame states that at least a GTX 1660 Ti will be offered, too. Do not be surprised if HP sells RTX versions of the 15-en0xxx though, seeing as it did with last year's models.
As we have already seen with the Zephyrus G14 and the Ryzen 9 4900HS, AMD has stepped up its game with the Renoir architecture. The Ryzen 5 4600H and Ryzen 7 4800H can operate at 10 W higher than the Ryzen 9 4900HS can. Hence, it will be interesting to see whether that additional headroom can translate into improved real-world performance.
