The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 is Qualcomm's latest 6nm processor for next-gen budget 5G smartphones. Now, iQOO has announced that it will unleash the inaugural example of these mobile devices without further ado. It is backed to deliver many of its new SoC's potential advantages in a package with some high-end finishing touches.

Update: iQOO has now announced that this world-first Snapdragon 4 Gen 1-powered device starts at just INR 11,499 (~US$145) for a base model with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage (that is upgradeable to 1TB with a microSD card).

However, that price is an SBI Bank offer, and the new smartphone is INR 13,999 (~US$177) without it, or up to INR 15,999 (~US$202) for a 6/128GB top-end SKU. As before, its sales start tomorrow (September 14, 2022), at which point iQOO might deign to reveal whether the Z6 Lite has an HD+ or FHD+ resolution for its "class-leading" 120Hz display.

Original Article: Qualcomm has just confirmed that it has a new update for platforms of the Snapdragon 480 caliber that has moved on to the new "x Gen z" naming scheme. Accordingly, this latest SoC for OEMs wishing to make their next max-value-for-money smartphone is now officially known as the 4 Gen 1, a 2.0GHz processor based on a 6nm architecture.

iQOO has announced that it has already secured first use of the new processor to create a new Lite variant for its Z6 series, already touted to harness many potential advantages of its new SA/NSA sub-6GHz 5G-capable platform.

The Z6 Lite is now destined for the Indian market (a space where iQOO now claims to be #1 for smartphones), touted to land there propelled by its new SoC to levels of performance that outstrip last-gen alternatives like the MediaTek Dimensity 700 and Snapdragon 680 in terms of AnTuTu benchmark scores.

The Z6 Lite also promises to push its refresh rate to a new "segment"-best of 120Hz, although a resolution for the display in question has yet to be revealed; both HD+ and FHD+ are possibilities at this point.

The Z6 Lite will also ship with flat edges and a 2.5D-curved glass rear panel with the same "AG" treatment as some higher-end models. Its double-barrelled camera hump is already known to house a 50MP main sensor with an "Eye Auto Focus" feature that might fix subject-finding issues from previous generations.

iQOO has also teased he upcoming Lite variant with its 5,000mAh battery, although its 18W charging speed is a potential let-down (as its SoC supports up to Qualcomm QC 4+ technology) rather than a boost to its hype. This world's first taste of Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 potential will debut on September 14, 2022 via Amazon.in.
