Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 5G arrives as one of the first Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 smartphones
Xiaomi has presented the Redmi Note 12, the entry-level in the series and one of the first smartphones with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset. For reference, Qualcomm has built the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 around a 6 nm TSMC node with eight CPU cores clocked at 2 GHz and an Adreno 619 GPU. Additionally, Xiaomi has complemented the low-end SoC with LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 flash storage.
Moreover, the 165.88 x 76.21 x 7.98 mm and 188 g handset has the same 6.67-inch OLED display as the Redmi Note 12 Pro. Hence, the Redmi Note 12 has a 1080p native resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 1,200-nit peak brightness. Separately, the device has 48 MP primary, 2 MP macro and 8 MP cameras, plus a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 33 W fast charging.
Also, Xiaomi has included a 3.5 mm jack and NFC, but only MIUI 13 based on Android 12, not Android 13. The Redmi Note 12 is orderable in China now, with the handset available from CNY 1,199 with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Alternatively, Xiaomi offers the Redmi Note 12 with 6 GB of RAM, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for the following prices:
- 4 GB of RAM/128 GB storage - CNY 1,199 (~US$167)
- 6 GB of RAM/128 GB storage - CNY 1,299 (~US$181)
- 8 GB of RAM/128 GB storage - CNY 1,499 (~US$209)
- 8 GB of RAM/256 GB storage - CNY 1,699 (~US$237)
Furthermore, the Redmi Note 12 comes in Midnight Dark, Mirror Porcelain White and Time Blue colourways. While Xiaomi has not confirmed whether it will release the Redmi Note 12 outside China yet, it is widely assumed that the Redmi Note 12 series will launch globally in early 2023. Incidentally, Xiaomi has announced other Redmi Note 12 smartphones today, including the Redmi Note 12 Pro and the Redmi Note 12 Pro Discovery Edition.
