Talk of an upcoming Xiaomi 12 variant that is simultaneously Lite, 5G and NE has sparked back up again with the discovery of this alleged product name on an IMEI database. Its apparent status as a re-brand of a heretofore Chinese-market exclusive may also have been confirmed this time, thereby suggesting that a new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1-powered device is on the way to at least 1 new region.

The Xiaomi Civi 2 - a smartphone that re-purposes the by-now practically vintage dual punch-hole selfie camera in a new way that stops just short of being a Dynamic Island - has been said to re-brand as a global edition called the 12 Lite 5G NE even before its launch. Now, this rumor might be confirmed thanks to a new leak.

ITHome claims to have found the slightly more convoluted new product name on an "IMEI" database, along with those of pre-existing devices such as the 12 Pro Dimensity and Redmi 10T. This leak is also touted to confirm it as a re-badged Civi 2 outright this time.

It is listed as having the model number 2210129SG, nearly matching that of the second-gen Civi (2210129SC). Therefore, should this leak holds up, it may now be very late in the year for the smartphone to become part of the 12 series. Then again, that may not be the most disappointing thing about the "Lite 5G NE" on its debut.
