Vivo X100 Ultra: Much better than Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra for concert shots, as sample zoom photos suggest

In 2024, the chapter on zoom cameras in smartphones is likely to be rewritten without Samsung, one of the early co-founders of long-range zoom cameras in smartphones alongside Huawei. Ironically, the Vivo X100 Ultra contains Samsung technology, with which Vivo achieves excellent results, as new photos from its 200 MP telephoto camera demonstrate.

There was a time when iPhone owners would borrow a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to take good concert photos. In 2024, the upcoming Vivo X100 Ultra may well take Samsung's place in these cases, at least in view of the photos that are currently circulating online in China. Images like the one below have been shared countless times on social media, and for good reason. The photos taken as part of the "The Singer 2024" talent show, some of which were apparently taken during rehearsals, show the truly outstanding results of the 3.7x telephoto camera at 10x magnification, mostly at around 230 mm equivalent focal length, with a few wide-angle shots also included.

Although the optical magnification is significantly lower than that of the current Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, the difficult lighting conditions in the concert hall do not seem to pose a major problem for the triple cam thanks to its 200 MP sensor behind a Zeiss T* lens with an optimized F/2.67 aperture and Vario APO Sonnar lens, as well as the good HDR and AI algorithms from Vivo itself.

Ironically, there is also a lot of Samsung technology in the Vivo X100 Ultra, as the manufacturer utilizes a brand new 1/1.4-inch sensor from the ISOCELL family called HP9 for the first time, meaning the camera can take real 200 MP photos. Many other technical specifications of the Vivo X100 Ultra and the Vivo X100s and X100s Pro, which are scheduled for launch in China on March 13, are already known, and a number of hands-on images, teasers and render images have all already been leaked or revealed in advance. If you have not yet seen the first published sample photos from the Vivo X100 Ultra's cameras, you can find more material here. The Vivo X100 Ultra was also present as a camera at a Chinese rocket launch to the moon.
