Vivo has now released the X Fold5 in India after showcasing the same foldable last month in China. As a pre-launch leak suggested, the X Fold5 comes in at INR 20,000 (~$235) cheaper than last year's X Fold3 Pro before factoring in any launch discounts. Consequently, the X Fold5 is significantly cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold7 (curr. $1,999.99 on Amazon), which currently starts at INR 174,999 (~$2,035) with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage.
By contrast, Vivo charges INR 149,999 (~$1,745) for the X Fold5 with twice as much storage and 16 GB of RAM. The company is offering various launch discounts too, including an INR 15,000 (~$175) bank promotional offer. Still, the X Fold5 contains various hardware improvements over the Galaxy Z Fold7, albeit while relying on Qualcomm's older Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
For example, the X Fold5 features a 36% larger battery than the Galaxy Z Fold7 at 6,000 mAh versus 4,400 mAh. At this stage, it remains to be seen how they fare when it comes to battery life. Nonetheless, the X Fold5 will recharge more quickly than its Samsung rival thanks to 80 W wired and 40 W wireless charging support.
On top of that, the X Fold5 has technically superior ultra-wide, telephoto and front-facing cameras. The Galaxy Z Fold7 takes the edge when it comes to main camera optics, though. While the X Fold5 is available to pre-book from today, Vivo's new foldable will not reach general sale until July 30.
