If you're eyeing the Galaxy Z Fold7 or Z Flip7, be ready for one of the most brutal truths of owning a foldable phone: breaking the screen might cost nearly as much as buying a brand-new midrange device.
Samsung's newest foldables look more durable than ever, but repairing them is still extremely expensive.
According to parts pricing obtained by SamMobile from a European supplier, the inner folding screen of the Galaxy Z Fold7 will set you back €761, which is about $890.
That’s just for the part, without any labor or service fees. For context, that amount could get you a brand-new Galaxy S24 Plus or even a used flagship like the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
It doesn’t stop there. The smaller cover screen of the Fold7 costs €525 (around $611), which is shockingly high for a panel that’s not even the main display.
The Galaxy Z Flip7, which is considered the more “affordable” of the two foldables, is slightly easier on your pocket, but only slightly. The internal foldable panel is priced at €342 ($400), while the cover screen, Samsung's 4.1-inch FlexWindow, will cost you €207 ($240).
None of these figures include labor, so if you're going through a third-party repair shop or if you're out of warranty, the final cost could balloon even higher.
Samsung’s standard warranty doesn’t cover accidental damage. So, if you drop your phone or crack the screen, you're basically on your own unless you opted into Samsung Care+.
And at these prices, Samsung Care+ might actually make sense. For the Galaxy Z Fold7, the Care+ protection plan goes for $13 per month or $259 per year.
For the Z Flip7, it’s $10 per month or $169 per year. Both plans include unlimited same-day repairs for screen or back glass damage, with a $29 deductible per visit.
That sounds much more palatable than shelling out $890 for a new inner panel, especially when you’re already spending upwards of $1,800 on the device itself.
Some regions may see better repair pricing, though. In India, for example, Samsung’s official support page lists the Galaxy Z Fold7’s inner screen at ₹46,870 (about $543), while the outer screen costs ₹6,740 (around $78).
The Z Flip 7’s inner screen is listed at ₹19,350 ($224), and the cover screen at ₹5,810 ($67). That’s a major difference compared to the European pricing, even after factoring in currency and regional cost differences.
Anyway, the hard truth here is foldables are fragile. And regardless of Samsung’s promises of increased durability, one drop is all it takes to put a massive dent in your wallet.
If you don't get coverage and your screen breaks, you could be looking at a total repair cost that’s close to or even more than the resale value of the phone itself.
