When we previously reported on Peak, it was already a highly popular co-op experience. But it has since turned into something of an indie enigma, with recent reports indicating that Peak has outsold all other paid games on the Steam store, and it's not even close.
According to data collected by GameDiscoverCo, Peak sold 3.7 million units in August 2025 alone, putting it ahead of its nearest competition, Mage Arena, by 2.5 million units. In other words, it has outperformed Mage Arena by over 200%.
Steam revenue tells a different story
Much of Peak's success could be attributed to its reasonably low price of $7.99 and the fact that it's a relatively accessible game overall, with the minimum system requirements calling for as little as an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT.
This low pricing, however, means that Peak falls behind when it comes to overall revenue generated by its developers, coming in seventh place — earning $20.5 million — compared to the rest of Steam's top-earning games for August 2025. The top scorers here are mostly free-to-play games, with Counter-Strike 2 raking in a massive $154.8 million for first place, followed by PUBG: Battlegrounds ($56.7 million), Battlefield 6 ($52.6 million), Apex Legends ($23.5 million), and Marvel Rivals ($22.5 million) rounding out the top-five earners on Steam for August 2025.
SteamDB's player count charts reflect Peak's massive August sales, too, with the game's peak concurrent player count topping 170,000 players on August 17 and setting its all-time record.
It will be interesting to see how September shakes out, given the September launches of both Borderlands 4 and Hollow Knight: Silksong — both highly anticipated games, although on entirely opposite ends of the spectrum. It is expected that Silksong will have an outsized effect on the sales of indie games, since the game launched with very little warning to other indie developers.
