In Severed Steel, you take on the role of the titular protagonist Steel, who, true to the game’s name, has lost one arm. Driven by revenge, she seeks to eliminate those who wronged her. The game throws you into a series of action-packed levels where you wall-run, perform slick acrobatics and take down enemies in stylish slow motion, with clear Matrix vibes.
Severed Steel – developed and published by Greylock Studio – launched in September 2021, shortly before the release of The Matrix Resurrections. German gaming magazine GameStar described it as the “perfect warm-up for Matrix 4,” praising its stylish slow-motion combat, acrobatic movement and destructible environments as standout features.
The game has earned an overwhelmingly positive reception on Steam, with 95% of roughly 7,700 user reviews giving it a thumbs up. On Metacritic, the reactions are more reserved: players gave Severed Steel a 7.2 User Score, while critics settled on a Metascore of 73.
