Signify announces end of popular Philips Hue Labs testing platform
Signify has announced that it is discontinuing the Philips Hue Labs testing platform. On a new support page related to the matter, the company said that customers could continue to use Hue Labs until June 2024, after which they would lose access. Instead, users will be able to test new features directly in the Philips Hue app, where they will be labelled as Beta.
Hue Labs has been used to test many features, known as formulas, before the company made them available in the Philips Hue app. These include Colorloop, now the Prism effect, and time-based light, known as the natural light scene. A full table detailing how Hue Lab formulas translate to Philips Hue app features can be found below. Signify notes that if you cannot find your formula in this table, it may not have a corresponding app-based feature. One example is the temperature sensor dashboard, which the company said was “not a fit for the app”. Instead, it suggests customers use Apple Home or Google Home for this feature.
From June, your existing automated Hue Labs formulas will continue to run, but you cannot edit them. Formulas that are manually triggered will no longer be available, but the linked scenes will still be viewable in the scene gallery. The table also lists four upcoming app features, including Sensor Couple and Sunset simulation. It is unclear when these tools will launch.
