No Sony PlayStation Showcase or State of Play in sight with lack of first-party PS5 games

First-party PlayStation titles are becoming a less compelling reason to purchase a PS5. With only a handful of exclusive PS5 games incoming, no Sony events are on the calendar. Insiders can't confirm any PlayStation Showcase or State of Play in the short term.
PlayStation loyalists are in an odd position, with few first-party PS5 games to anticipate. At the same time, Xbox hardware sales have dwindled, leaving the PS5 as the dominant force in the console wars. It doesn't appear that Sony will surprise gamers with any unexpected announcements. According to several insiders, there are no plans for a PlayStation Showcase or State of Play in the near future.
On the ResetEra forums, the reliable NateTheHate told readers he hadn't heard of a May PlayStation show or upcoming events. Leaker John Harker also chimed in, unable to confirm any presentations in the next few months. However, September is a more likely date for official news.

Sony hasn't hosted a PlayStation Showcase since 2023, when it unveiled titles like Helldivers 2 and Marathon. Excluding the Borderlands 4 April broadcast, the last usually more frequent State of Play happened in February 2025. The common explanation why Sony isn't planning a media spectacle is a lack of PS5 games. The anticipated Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yotei should debut in the summer and fall. Otherwise, the bulk of upcoming releases are from third-party publishers.
PlayStation gamers shouldn't struggle to find new titles. Ironically, with its cross-platform efforts, Microsoft has begun to dominate the PS5 sales charts. The June 8th Xbox Games Showcase will likely feature many future releases from Microsoft and its gaming companies. It will be a busy month for events, with the Summer Game Fest on June 6th.
Sony may prefer to avoid the hype around the June 5th Switch 2 release date and summer shows. Also, it doesn't always provide much warning for a PlayStation Showcase or State of Play. Nevertheless, some fans are wondering what happened to exclusive PS5 titles.
