It is powered by an Intel quad-core Core i7 920XM processor and it has a Wacom digitizer
A recent FCC (Federal Communications Commission) filing by Wistron has pointed out that Lenovo is getting ready with a new version of its ThinkPad W series notebooks. The new model which has been named the Lenovo ThinkPad W701 will definitely be an improvement over the previous Lenovo ThinkPad W700 notebook as it will support Intel’s latest 2GHz quad-core Core i7-920XM processor with 8MB of L3 cache, a maximum core speed of 3.2GHz, and a 55W TDP.
This is not the first time when FCC filings have hinted out at a new Lenovo notebook model. Earlier we have seen a slinky Lenovo laptop and a Lenovo laptop having the Pineview processor being revealed by a FCC filing by Wistron. So, will this new laptop hit the streets? I would say definitely it would make an appearance soon since the models appearing at the FCC are sure to come out in the open market. So what makes us think that this is the Lenovo Thinkpad W710? Well, apart from the fact that the FCC ID of this device is PU5-W701, the other thing that points out to the fact that this is the Thinkpad W701 is the fact that Wistron has made a filing for this notebook that contains the Wacom Digitizer which confirms that this is the new ThinkPad W series notebook. The ThinkPad W700 is a state of the art machine with a quad-core CPU, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and Nvidia’s Quadro FX3700 graphics chipset with 1GB of virtual memory. The distinguishing feature of this notebook is the Wacom digitizer which has been placed right next to the trackpad and an on-board color collaborator. The W700 is quite expensive having a price tag of $2978 upwards so don’t expect the W701 to come any cheap.
The specs and the pricing are not out yet but it is being said that the W701 will have a quad-core Core i7-920XM processor, 320GB Fujitsu hard disk drive, wacom digitizer, and a 17-inch WUXGA (1920x1200 pixel) display. We will get you more details once we get our hands on them.
