Users get more choice but at a cost
Dell has announced its Inspiron 11z laptop with a host of new features that makes it all the more attractive than other laptops in the market. The Inspiron 11z is one of the lightest and the thinnest offerings from Dell with a weight of only 3 lbs and measuring just an inch thin. These figures make the laptop quite easy to carry around.
Debuted on the 18th of August 2009, it came with a not so happening spec sheet which left many dell lovers disappointed. Sensing the same, Dell has now opened its box full of goodies (read additional hardware and software options) albeit at a price. Here is the list of customization options for its Inspiron 11z, all available at an affordable price.
Firstly the basic model without any customization looked somewhat like this:
Price of the model - $399
- Color: Black
- Central Processing Unit (CPU): 1.3GHz Intel Celeron 743 (single core)
- Operating System: Windows Vista Home Basic
- Hard Disk: 160GB
- RAM: 2GB
- Battery: 3 cell, 28WHr
- WiFi: 802.11a/b/g
- Webcam: Integrated 1.3 Megapixels
- Bluetooth: none
- External Optical Drive: None
Now, let us have a look at the customizations that are in store for us:
- Wide variety of Colors on offer at an added price of $40 - Promise Pink, Jade Green, Ice Blue, New Cherry Red, Passion Purple, and Alpine White
- An Upgraded 1.3GHz Intel Pentium SU4100 (dual core) processor at an added price of $75
- Free upgrade to Windows 7 operating system
- Hard Disk Drive Upgrade - 250GB SATA HDD(5400RPM) for $25 more and 320GB SATA HDD(5400RPM) for $75 more
- More amount of RAM (4GB DDR2) for an added $120
- Bigger Battery (56WHr Lithium-Ion Battery 6-cell) for longer portability for an additional $35
- Faster WiFi 802.11n for an additional $25
- Integrated 1.3MP Webcam with Facial Recognition at an additional price of $25
- Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Internal (2.1) module for $20 extra
- External Optical Drive - Dell External Multi-Format CD/DVD USB writer for additional $79
The new dual core processor will definitely provide that extra punch and power. Thanks to a 56WHr battery users will now be able to run their Inspiron 11z for much longer thereby enhancing its portability factor. Connectivity can also be improved slightly by adding the WiFi 802.11n module and the Bluetooth module. With so many customization options available on offer, I bet now the Inspiron 11z will inspire the users to go and grab one and would force other manufacturers to come out with such customization options.
