The Dell Latitude 2100 clone reaches China schools

Dell recently launched the Dell Latitude 2100 series netbook which is aimed at the younger generation. Dell has been trying to make its presence in the education sector with the launch of this netbook. It has gone so far as to incorporate certain features that make it ideal for kids. Earlier HP also attempted to enter the same with their 2133 Mini although it can’t be called much child-proofed.

Now some unknown manufacturer in Shanzai has a 2100 clone up their sleeve that they are trying to push into the Chinese schools. We only have a promo image of the device and it looks so much like the original it is scary. Local Education authorities are helping these systems reaching the schoolkids. It is cheaper also at $250. This clone is powered by the 1.66GHz N280 chip, 160GB drive and a larger 11.1 inch screen with a better 1366 x 768 resolution.

On the other hand, the original Dell Latitude 2100 is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor with support for up to 2GB of DDR2 memory. The chipset used is Intel 945PM/GS and the graphics are provided by the integrated GMA950. It has a standard 10.1-inch WSVGA LED display (1024x576 pixels of resolution) with an option of a similar touchscreen display. The storage is provided by a 250GB HDD @5400 rpm or a SSD up to 16GB. The netbook weighs 1.32Kg or 2.9 pounds with a 3-cell Li-ion battery. There is also an option for a 6-cell battery.
