Asus has shown off a bunch of Eee PCs at the CES in January. Now the Taiwanese powerhouse is apparently planning to release a high-end netbook called the EEE PC Shell which could give you a better bargain than S101, if you have not already got one that is.

Just 1-inch thick and 1.1kg in weight, the 1008HA “shell” will have optional WiMAX and 3.5G WWAN connectivity. As the model number suggests, the 1008HA has a 10.2-inch LCD panel as in S101, but higher capacity battery and with a higher specification, at the same time will sell at a much lower price - $570 compared to $699.

The Eee PC 1008HA is called “Shell” because of its sea-shell inspired pearlescent paint job. Asus reveals to audience that the 1008HA will sport an Intel Dual core Atom processor along with a 64GB storage space. It will sport a 92% of a full-length keyboard, and the same touch keys we have come to love in previous Eee PCs, with the addition of a one-click access to a full suite of exclusive software including

  • Eee sharing that makes it easy to synchronize Eee PCs™ with other computers and share messages and documents with other Eee PC™ users - even without Internet access.
  • Eee Arena: Offers easy access to thousands of songs, videos, radio stations, games, magazines and more.

The S101 weights less than 1 kilogram and is only 1.8-centimeters thick and is available in brown, champagne, and graphite colors. The S101 sports 1024 x 600 pixel display, an Intel Atom1.6GHz N270 CPU, a 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB solid state disk, 1GB of memory, Wi-Fi (802.11n), Ethernet (10/100), built-in card reader, Bluetooth 2.0,  a VGA output, three USB 2.0 ports and 0.3-megapixel webcam.
