New Macbook White and Magic mouse released

The unibody Macbook white released yesterdday

Almost unceremonially, Apple brought out the new unibody MacBook yesterday. The new model will really complement Snow White, and it is as glossy as the familiar 13” MacBook Pro line gets. The white case is Plastic though, but dare you say it gives a cheap feeling! It sports a 13.3” LED backlit display panel, new glass multitouch trackpad, and a built-in battery that Apple claims will take you through 7 hours of pure computing joy.

It will be powered by the 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo processor, accompanied by an 9400M GPU, 2GB of RAM (upgradable to 4GB), 250GB hard drive and the usual standby SuperDrive.

Engadget got a chance to lay their hands on a sample, and they found it quite sleek and well-built despite of the plastic material. The display is quite bright and comfortable to look at. The body resists fingerprints to a good extent. There's no SD card slot and dedicated line-in. Instead you get just two USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, Mini DisplayPort, and a combo headphone / line-in jack.

The new Macbook will carry a price tag of $999, and is available at stores across the world.

Apple also released recently what is called a Magic Mouse. This two button laser mouse (one button and no scroll wheel) has a multitouch surface which will obey your finger swipes rather than the clicks. Engadget reports that it will be just like a Trackpad on a notebook, supporting two-finger swipes as well as single-finger horizontal and vertical scrolling, complete with a software-based inertia (see a video here). It won’t support zooming though.

It will retail at $69 and run for four months on one battery.
