Acer also designs an 8.9” notebook, and a 12.1” notebook as competitors to the Asus Eee PC.
We already reported that Asus is going to develop a low-cost laptop like the Eee PC. They designed two notebooks with different screen size. The Aspire has an 8.9” display and the Slim Gemstone Aspire a 12.1” display. The 8.9” Aspire is going to be available in the second half of 2008.
Acer uses Intel’s new Atom CPU as well, because they equip their 8.9” Aspire with this processor. Furthermore, the customer can decide between Windows XP and Linux. It is possible to equip the notebook with a normal hard disk or a SSD too. The price will be somewhere between $300 and $450.
There is less information about the 12.1” Slim Gemstone Aspire. Digitimes unveiled that Acer bought one million 12.1” displays.
Acer wants to sell about 5 to 5.5 million 8.9” Aspire notebooks until the end of 2008.
