HP recalls 16,000 laptop batteries
By: Stefan HinumAfter a report of an internal failure by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and user-reports of overheating and burning HP announced the recall.
Hewlett-Packard has received 20 reports of batteries overheating. One minor injury has been reported and 11 cases of minor property damage. Customers, whose battery units are affected will receive a free replacement battery. Nevertheless a worldwide recall of 16000 batteries is just a small affair. Earlier recalls affected more than a million batteries.
HP Pavilion family notebooks with model numbers dv1xxx, ze2xxx, as well as HP Compaq family notebooks with model number nx48xx and Compaq Presario models V2xxx and M2xxx may be affected.
