The bigger on might not be of two screens

We mentioned that day about Asus planning to unveil the two screen booklike eBook reader after they had showed it off in the CeBit 2009. More details are leaked by Digitimes that says there might be two screen sizes of the notebook/eBook reader – 6” regular one and 9” high-end one, both featuring greyscale touchscreen.

Asus promises that its ebook reader will be technologically cleverer and more versatile than those already available in the market, and it may not be just one device, either – as reported by Timesonline UK. There should be a lite version alongwith the full-fledged one, mainly to bridge the gap between the prices and target customer segments.

The USP of the Asus device is that it has two screens, connected by a hinged spine, like a printed book. Now the interesting part is that Digitimes says the 9” model will have only one screen and the 6” one will come with two screens alright. Does that mean we are looking at actually as much as three models? Liliputing was clever enough to point this out.

Asus invented the netbook more than a year ago, and the rumor this time is that even these eBook could be nothing short of revolutionary.

In related news, Asus expects to ship 600,000 ultra-thin notebooks with a total of 12 million units by the end of 2009, and the volume has a chance to hit one million units according to President Jerry Shen – as reported by Digitimes. Ultra-thin models will account for 30% of the company's total notebook shipments in 2010. Of the 2009 shipments, about 40% will be netbooks, Shen reportedly told Digitimes. The Q4 shipment should be boosted by the launch of Windows 7 which many people are eagerly waiting for, including me.

Asus might launch a new notebook series focusing on "innovation" in January of 2010, and 11.6- and 12.1-inch netbooks, Shen added.
