Is it the first netbook to feature a dual-core processor?
Shenzhen Weibu Electronics is planning to launch a netbook that runs the dual-core Atom 330 processor and Nvidia 9400M Ion graphics– as reported by Akiba PC Hotline. If you remember, Macbooks use the same graphics. Although it is of much greater power, but also the Atom 330 has a power consumption requirement double that of a single-core Atom.
The N10A sports a 10.1” LCD panel with the Ion platform, powered by the 1.6 GHz Dual-core CPU. You get 1GB RAM (DDR2, up to 2GB), HDD 150GB (Serial ATA connection), HDMI, LAN, Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11g / b compliant), USB 2.0 (2 ports), 2.1 sound channels, Web camera.
The 330 processor was introduced last year. Apart from offering 2 CPU cores, HyperThreading is included as well (which would look like 4 cores for the operating system). Every core provides 1.6 GHz and 512 KB cache and the FSB of the CPU is clocked with 533 MHz. The rest of the specs are equal to the single core version. Because of the two cores, it also integrates twice the cache memory (1MB) of single-core Atom chips.
The N10A is expected to be available shortly, for 49,800 yen, or about $530 – as reported by Akiba PC Hotline.
