The Toshiba TG01 – is 4.3” too big?

The Toshiba TG01 can be called a fusion of an MID and a smartphone
The Toshiba TG01 is probably one of the closest to represent the fusion of the relatively high-powered web-focused MID concept. It’s got a 4.3” 800×480 TFT resistive screen and a high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD2850 1 GHz processor. It has a 3.15 mega pixel camera with auto-focus that operates at a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, and runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system. The unique 3D navigation gives a futuristic feel.
Web surfing is provided by the HSDPA and Wi-Fi connections. This enables the user to access the internet via its own connection or through available hot spots dotted around the country. For means of file sharing, Blue tooth is included as well as the always handy USB, GPRS and EDGE.
Chippy of UMPCPortal got his hands on a sample for reviewing and he finds the size to be huge. So much so that he does not think a person will carry it 24/7.
Big screens make for nice viewing and grander multimedia experience, but can too bulky and big as a 24/7 buddy device. High pixel density like that on this device looks impressive but don’t work well for an optimal web experience – as pointed out by Chippy, shaking the very concept of a possible totally converged device.
So it is up to you to decide whether you would actually want a fusion handset that might rob you from enjoying their optimal experiences, or rather keep them separate, a smaller buddy phone and dedicated web-focused MID like Chippy.
