Dell Adamo XPS will be the thinnest amongst all three laptops
Dell Adamo
Adamo (Latin for "I fall in love with") is a sub-notebook by Dell which focuses on design and mobility. It was the first netbook under the new Adamo by Dell brand. It was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show on January 9, 2009. At 0.65 inches thick, Dell claims it to be the “world’s thinnest laptop”.
Adamo was released on 17th March, 2009 in the United States. The spec sheet was a bit let down for the hefty price tag with which it came. $2000 got you a 1.2 GHz Core2 Duo processor, 2 GB of 800 MHz DDR3 memory, a 128 GB SSD, and a 13.4-inch widescreen with a 1366x768 resolution. OS on it was Windows Vista 64 bit home premium. For $2600 the spec sheet looked a bit better although with just a single change i.e. a 1.4 GHz Core 2 Duo processor instead of the 1.2GHz version of the processor.
On the design front, it was made of aluminum with three different finishes of black metal, including a classy matte grain that makes up a majority of the case. Talking about the battery life, Dell claims a 5 hour run on full charge. But when it was tested, the battery conked off at 2 hours 40 mins. That’s nearly half of what Dell claimed.
At 4 pounds, it’s a full pound heavier than the MacBook Air. In the run down to the launch of Dell Adamo XPS, Dell has just upgraded the original Dell Adamo by adding in a 2.1GHz Core2 Duo processor and a 256GB solid state drive,
Dell Adamo XPS
A new notebook from Dell is soon going to make an appearance in the gadget world on 22nd October 2009 under the name Dell Adamo XPS.
This new notebook, for which unfortunately I don’t have the specs as such, is a $2000 notebook with a unique heat-sensitive latch. To be more specific, it's a “heat-sensing strip on the lip that, when swiped with a finger glows white and automatically opens the aluminum lid.” Sounds really interesting to me as in this is the first time I am seeing such a technology being implemented in a laptop.
This notebook is 9.99mm-thin (0.39 inches). That’s thinner than the iphone!!! God only knows what they managed to cram inside. The original Adamo was 0.65 inches thin, and the MacBook Air is 0.76 inches at its thickest point, making the Adamo XPS concept nearly half as thin. So, I would not be wrong when I say that it will be one of the thinnest models till date when it makes an official launch.
It is also being rumored that the Dell Adamo XPS will have an OLED display. If at all this news is true then Dell will become the first company to launch a laptop with such kind of a display.
Macbook Air
MacBook Air is a Macintosh notebook computer designed by Apple and was first introduced to the masses on January 15, 2008. Since then it has been upgraded twice.
When it was introduced it was claimed to be the world's thinnest notebook. Dell challenged that claim with the release of Dell Adamo on 17th March 2009 and now the latest from Dell, the Dell Adamo XPS is breaking records by being the thinnest notebook ever till date at 9.99 mm (that's thinner than the iphone)
The latest Macbook Air was released on June 8, 2009. It comprises of 2 models the $1,499 model and $1,799 one. While the lower end model consists of a 1.86GHz processor and 120GB 4,200-rpm hard drive, the higher end version has a 2.13GHz Core2 Duo processor and a 128GB solid-state drive. Apple is all set to launch all new models of its MacBooks, iMacs, etc. It would be interesting to see how they fair up with the new Dell Adamo XPS and other similar models.
Looking at the price tags of Dell Adamo and Macbook Air, it seems Dell went seriously wrong with its pricings. Comparison tells that Mac 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo processor notebook is for $1,799 and Dell Adamo 1.4 GHz Core 2 Duo processor notebook costs a whopping $2600. That is pay more for less!!! Would you????
But since the spec sheet for the Dell Adamo XPS isn’t out as yet, I will keep my fingers crossed on the topic - whether Dell would learn from its folly and will it dethrone Apple or will Apple remain the numero uno in the notebook space. Time would only tell us.
Macbook Air is a steal deal but I personally would wait for the Dell Adamo XPS as it promises a lot of new innovations in the field of notebook world. And just 2 days from now, Dell would open all the secrets to the Dell Adamo XPS. And that’s not much of a wait.
