The netbook wave has hit India
Intex Technologies is a 13-year-old IT hardware, mobile phones, and consumer electronics company, headquartered at New Delhi, India. Brand 'Intex' covers 6 business segments - computer peripherals, PC, GSM mobile phones, consumer electronics, retail, and enterprise business.
Intex has recently launched a netbook built for the Indian consumer market. The oddly named N101-WC1100 netbook has the usual specifications which are found in the netbooks from the west. The new Intex netbook is powered by the popular 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor. Add to it 1GB of DDR2 RAM (expandable to 2GB DDR2) and we get a netbook that is no less in processing power than its western counterparts. The launch of a netbook by an Indian manufacturer clearly indicates that the popularity of netbooks is gaining momentum worldwide and is not restricted to the US or the UK alone.
Sanjay Kumar, DGM-PC, Intex Technologies, said, “At Intex we always thrive to be at par with the technological advancements taking place in the industry. Netbook is the latest buzz in the market and we foresee it to be a commendable replacement or an alternate product to laptops. The products have a universal appeal; they can strike a chord not only with the Gen Y but also with teenagers and the older generation. Further, they could also play a key role in bridging the digital divide.”
Other features of the N101-WC1100 include:
· Intel 82845G Graphics Controller
· 160GB SATA hard drive
· 10.1-inch WSVGA LED backlight display
· 1.3-mega pixel webcam
· 2 USB ports (as per the pic)
· WiFi 802.11 b/g (wireless)
· Bluetooth
· VGA output port
· 7-in-1 mini card reader
The netbook is available in two colors – Red and Black. The users will have to shell out a bit extra for the red colored model. This is a trend that has been growing, we have seen various notebook manufacturers charging the user a bit extra for a colored chassis e.g. Alienware M17x Nebula Red, Dell Inspiron 17, and many more charge the users about $40 or more for a colored model.
The company claims that this netbook can run for up to 4 hours on a single charge, which is quite decent. The weight of the netbook is 1.2Kgs and its price has been kept under $400. We hope to see some more netbooks from Indian manufacturers in the coming years which will not only increase the popularity of netbooks but also help in expanding the market for the product.
