The Spinpoint M7 offers high density, low power and a high shock operation tolerance
Samsung’s latest offering is the Spinpoint M7 which is a 2.5-inch hard disk drive with a storage capacity of 500GB and a spindle speed of 5,400rpm. It is all set to target notebook users who want to have a rugged HDD with a high shock operation tolerance of 400g/2ms, which offers better data protection and is ideal for rough work environments. All this is achieved by the use of a rugged base and cover design.
The company claims that the new device controller on this hard disk enables it to reduce power consumption by upto 25% (in seek mode) and improve overall performance by 18%. The silent operation of the Spinpoint M7 is attributed to the proprietary SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technology of Samsung.
It is also available in lower disk capacity versions like 250GB, 320GB and 400GB which offer similar performance and features. Despite having such a huge capacity it is still quite lightweight
