BenQ has jumped on to the CULV (consumer ultra low voltage) bandwagon with the launch of the Joybook S35 and Joybook S43 notebooks. These notebooks have been designed for businessmen and internet enthusiasts and the company has termed them as super-slim and light-as-air models. The 3.5-pound 13.3-inch Joybook S35 and 4.6-pound 14-inch Joybook S43 notebooks are powered by Intel’s latest ULV processors which include Intel Core2 Duo SU7300, Intel Core2 Solo SU3500, or Intel Celeron 723/743. Both the models have a 1366x768 resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio display which is powered by BenQ’s exclusive UltraVivid technology with low-reflectivity, anti-glare display brilliance enhancement film which provides exceptional color depth and contrast.

Peter Chen, General Manager of BenQ Technology Product Center, said that, “Our new Joybooks employing ULV components are tailored to enhance the digital lifestyle enjoyment of a very specific consumer: one that desires the portability and affordability of a netbook, but requires the higher functionality of a notebook.  The S35/S43 is the clear, distinct solution between these two categories of laptops.”

The Joybook S43 ultra-thin notebook is powered by a dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 GPU while the Joybook S35 is powered by Intel’s integrated GMA4500M GPU. Other features on these ultra-thins include:

·         HDMI port

·         2 channel TruSurround HD system with SRS Headphone 360

·         500GB HDD

·         8X Super-Multi DVD (S43 only)

·         Webcam (with Magic-i Visual Effects 2 and WebCam Companion 3)

·         Microphone

·         eSATA port

·         802.11b/g/n WLAN card, Ethernet, and optional Bluetooth 2.1+EDR

·         4-in-1 card reader

·         Three USB 2.0

Both the models are available in super high-gloss cobalt or ebony, with extreme polish and wear resistance made possible by IMR processing. The Joybook S43 has a full-size keyboard (flip-top) and a gapless touchpad that is continuous with the palm rest which prevents dust from accumulating in the corners.  The Joybook S35 has a unique “flying eaves” hinge design and a raised dot pattern that differentiates the palm rest from the touchpad.

Talking about the battery life the Joybook S35 gives about 11 hours of battery backup using an optional 8-cell battery and 5.5 hours with the standard 4-cell battery. While the Joybook S43 runs for almost 5 hours with a standard 6-cell battery as per company claims. These new ultra-thin notebooks are already shipping in Asia, but there is no word regarding there availability in Europe or North America.
