Compal to ship around 50% of both Acer and Dell’s Q1 ’09 orders
Acer shipped an estimated 11 million notebooks during the first half of 2009 and all of them were produced by Taiwan-based ODM makers, with Compal Electronics sharing about 45% of the shipment volume. Compal also handled around 50% of Dell's notebook orders in the first quarter of 2009 – as reported by Digitimes.
Digitimes observes that although Quanta had orders of Acer's 10.1” netbook, 11.6”, 14.1”, 15.6” and 18.4” notebooks, since most of them were extended orders from 2008, while new models were not produced until April or May, Quanta's notebook shipments to Acer in the first half were less than half those of Compal.
