Asus has yet to confirm the rumour regarding the powerful notebook
Without naming their source, Digitimes.com claimed that Asus is planning to launch a 17.3" 3D notebook during the first quarter of 2010. The rumoured specifications of the notebook, dubbed the 'G72GX', are as follows:-
Processor: Intel Core i7 CPU,
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTM 160M GPU
Memory: 4GB
Storage: Two 320GB hard drives.
Digitimes.com also stated that 'Asustek is also scheduled to launch its 15.6-inch 3D notebook G51J3D in mid-November featuring the same CPU, GPU, memory and hard drive specifications as the 17.3-inch model.'
The price for both notebooks will likely exceed $800, say Digitimes.com, due to Asus' greater investment in the 'active shutter glasses' used to view 3D effects on such notebooks. Pegatron Technology will apparently manufacture both notebooks.
Neither Asus nor Pegatron Technology have confirmed details of their contract to create these new notebooks. Hewlett-packard and Dell will also launch similar notebooks in the future, according to Digitimes.com's article. The model name G72GX has already been given to several of Asus' previous laptops, hopefully the new products will offer real gaming power at a good price.
