AMD Congo platform getting ready for late October or November launch

It will compete against Intel's CULV platform

Not content to sit back and let Intel have all the ultra low voltage fun, AMDplatform plans to roll out the ultra thin Congo in late October or early November. Earlier it was slated to be launched in July, but as the demand for the ultra thin was not strong the launch date was extended.

AMD next gen ultra-thin notebook platform, Congo, will feature a dual-core Turion Neo X2 L625, Athlon Neo X2 L335/L325, and single-core Athlon Neo MV-40 processors, paired with the AMD M780G chipset.

For now, though, it seems HP seems to be powering its laptops with AMD processors as just recently it launched a 12.1-inch ultra-thin notebook (DV2-1113AX) in Taiwan that sports an Athlon Neo MV-40 CPU (that will be used in the Congo platform) combined with the RS690E chipset from the Yukon platform. The price for the above is NT$25,000 (US$776.24).HP also has another ultra-thin model up its sleeve priced at NT$32,000 that features a Turion Neo X2 L625 CPU.

In addition to the Congo platform, AMD also plans to launch some more ultra thins in next two years codenamed - Nile and Brazos. Other than the ultra thins, AMD’s traditional notebook platform Tigris is slated to appear after the Windows 7 formal launch. It will sport a 45nm processor from either the Sempron M100, Athlon II M300, Turion II M500 or the Turion II Ultra M600 series.
