USB 3.0 specifications officially introduced

The technical specifications of the new USB 3.0 standard have been presented by the USB 3.0 Promoter Group.
The USB 3.0 Promoter Group introduced the USB 3.0 standard officially at November 17th of 2008 and therefore they made a base for mass production of this device available. The USB 3.0 standard was introduced at the CES 2008 and the technicians needed nearly one year for accomplishing the specifications.
The USB 3.0 standard is also called SuperSpeed USB and its purpose is to replace the USB 2.0 standard. Anyhow, USB 2.0 devices will still work with the new connector. Furthermore, SuperSpeed USB will be up to ten times faster than today’s USB ports.
The presentation of the new standard does not implicate the arrival of new USB 3.0 devices any time soon. First devices are expected for the second half of 2009, but those are dedicated to manufacturers. End customers can expect to get new products in 2010.
