New HP Mini 1100 series with ExpressCard slot – Fact or fiction?
The HP support website announced the Hp Mini 1100 series with ExpressCard/54, but later quoted as saying it was a mistake!
The HP support website apparently gave out the specifications for the HP Mini 1100 series Netbooks. There are specifications for four models on the HP website including an 1131CL, 1135NR, 1140NR, and the 1141NR. The 1141NR is the Vivienne Tam edition -- it comes with a "Vivienne Tam sleeve" -- but apart from that and Bluetooth in the 1135NR and 1140NR, they've all got the same 10.1-inch 1024 x 576 LCDInfinity BrightView LED display.
Other specifications include an Intel Atom N270 CPU at 1.6GHz, 1GB of RAM, Intel GMA 950 graphics. Storage for all four models is to a 60GB 4200 RPM HDD. Wi-Fi is integrated along with HD audio, a webcam, and an integrated mic. One nice feature is that all of the machines offer an integrated ExpressCard slot supporting /54 and /34 cards.
Later according to Peter Ha of CrunchGear the supposed Mini 1100 series with an ExpressCard slot doesn’t exist and it was mistake made by the Web team. 1100s are just minor variations on the 1000s. A communication between HP and him says,
“We don’t offer a model within the HP Mini 1000 series that has an Express Card slot. There was an error made on our website which is being corrected. But for those customers interested in an HP Mini with an Express Card lot, we do offer the 2140 of course!
…I know this is confusing, but the 1100 models are simply other SKUs within the 1000 series, and differences within the various SKUs can be things like panel size, hard drive, etc., you know? (Though the info on our support website looks a little misleading because it makes it sound like the 1100 is a completely separate/new series.)”
