Acer planning to launch a 3D notebook

It seems as Acer has big plans for the near future. According to a report published by Digitimes, Acer is teaming up with Wistron (an ODM producing ICT products) to jointly develop and launch a 15.6-inch 3D notebook, which would be released by the end of October 2009. This notebook will feature built-in software which will be able to convert regular 2D movies to 3D. In addition, it will also directly support 3D movies. In order to view 3D content users require special stereoscopic glasses, without which the 3D content is not at all effective, but, according to Campbell Kan, vice president of Acer's mobile computing business unit, Acer is developing a model which will not require the use of these glasses. Since this notebook is still in its developing stage, this new technology still has to overcome a few obstacles.

The notebook will run on Windows 7 operating system which is due for release later this year. Thus, Acer will not make any announcement until Microsoft officially launches Windows 7 OS.
