The first solid state drives of the X25 series by Intel will get delivered in this year.
Intel already introduced its fast solid state drives a few time ago and they have delivered some test samples. The manufacturer will start to deliver its 2.5-inch SSDs with 160 GB in this year. They want to provide their 1.8-inch SSD a few weeks later in 2009.
The X25-M solid state drive has been reviewed by independent hardware specialists and they claim it to be the fastest modern drive on the market. The reports talk about a maximum reading speed of up to 250 MB/s and a maximum writing speed of up to 70 MB/s. Therefore, the device is not very cheap, because the X25-M with a capacity of 160 GB costs $ 945 (~€ 676) (but only if you order at least 1.000 pieces).
